Sunderland

Sunderland has a larger population than Newcastle, but surprisingly it was only recently that it was created a city. Now that the Metro connects the two cities it's easier to get between the two. Sunderland has a rich and proud history - from heavy industry such as shipbuilding and mining through to glass-making. This is where you'll find the National Glass Centre, the lovely Winter Gardens and one of the region's biggest annual attractions, the Sunderland airshow.
