St Mary's Lighthouse

St Mary's Lighthouse sits on an island which is accessible at low tide via a causeway.

Popular with familes where the kids can go rockpooling. You can sometimes see seals (but please do not approach them!).

The lighthouse itself opened in 1898 and it is now a visitor attraction. There is an admission charge and you canclimb to the very top where there are commanding views of the surrounding area. There is no charge to get onto the island itself or the shop.

Best travel option:

Bus 308 or 309 from Newcastle Haymarket bus station or connect at Whitley Bay Metro Station
