Getting around.
Newcastle city centre is very compact, so it's easy to explore on foot. There are some guided walking tours available for those who prefer to have an expert on hand.
Gateshead's more poular attractions are mostly found on the Quayside and this is a short walk from the town centre. It is also easy to cross to Gateshead Quayside from the Newcastle side using the Millennium Bridge (pedestrians & cyclists).
Accessibility
Wheelchair users will find Newcastle city centre is pretty flat, but there are still some old cobbled streets in the historic areas. There is a Shopmobility scheme based within Eldon Square shopping centre and another at the Metrocentre.
Getting between the Quaysides to the centres of Newcastle or Gateshead involves a steep incline. The Quaylink buses are accessible.
