This art deco style venue is the oldest cinema still being used for its original purpose.

It opened in 1937 as a newsreel cinema and they still show them every morning at 11:00

 

These days it is Tyneside's art house cinema . As well as latest releases you'll see films away from the mainstream as well as exhibitions, lectures etc. It nurtures young talent and has its own summer film school.

 

It's worth visiting for the building alone.
